Matthew Hoggard – Golf News

The former Yorkshire and England fast bowler has been playing white ball since hanging his flannels in 2013.

I had my first golf vacation. A mini-break for playing Loch Lomond in Scotland.

My favorite is the golf course. Queenstown Golf Club in New Zealand. It is located on a ridge overlooking Lake Wakatipu, with a snow-capped mountain range in the background and is one of the most magical spots in the world. I don’t remember what I shot, because I was too busy admiring the scene!

My ideal holiday would include four balls … Lee Westwood for golf and banter, Scottish comedians Kevin Bridges and Jennifer Aniston for laughter, well, because she’s Jennifer Aniston!

I had my best round. Six Hills Golf Club in Leicester. This is a wide open parkland course, measuring about 5,600 yards, but I turned around in two-overs, which is not bad for an 18 handicapper.

The hotel I’m staying at is … Pearl Continental Hotel in Lahore, Pakistan. We were lucky enough to stay in some incredible hotel when I was touring England, but Pearl was right there.

My favorite city in the world is … Cape Town. It’s all there. The sea, the hills, the great hotels, the gorgeous bars and restaurants and a lively nightlife. I always enjoy touring South Africa.

I had the most memorable holiday meal. Umai-ya eats sushi at a Japanese restaurant in Kuala Lumpur. It is located on the third floor of the Petronas Towers. The sushi was amazingly fresh, and the whole decor was very smooth.

I had the worst vacation experience. Camping vacation in Scotland when I was ten years old. Every day for the whole trip is pouring in with rain and I remember being very wet and very annoyed.

The golf course I want to play is … Leopard Creek Country Club in Kruger National Park, South Africa. The combination of a stunning golf course with amazing wildlife and scenery ticked a lot of boxes for me.

Here’s my top travel tip. Don’t forget your charger and travel adapter! And take a four-way gangplank socket – you may not have enough plugs for those all-important gadgets.
